The name GOT GOT emerges from the vernacular of communities who know the justice system not as an abstraction but as a lived reality. When someone is swept into punitive systems—wrongfully charged, unfairly sentenced, or destabilized by policies that erode health and housing—they often say they “got got.” We honor that phrase. We honor the pain embedded in it. And we reclaim it as a declaration of promise: that those who have been “got” by the system deserve to be gotten by community, by care, and by justice.
This gallery exists to render justice tangible. Through the exhibition and sale of art, we honor lived experience, resource legal aid, and cultivate the civic imagination required to reshape policy and possibility. In a city that feels at once haunted by its past and hopeful for its future, we offer a space where beauty and accountability converge.
